The emperor largest "room" / Stuben

In the various Vorarlberger landscape a special Kleinod represents Stuben. The geopolitical situation - the place is as it were the ?good room of the connection? Vorarlbergs with the neighboring country Tirol and thus to remaining Austria - and the Situierung at the foot of two passports, which mean gleizeitig the koninentale Wasserscheide and the internal-alpine climatic sheath, are specific characteristics.

The name Stuben emerges for the first time documentary 1330. But on Reichstag to Ulm the 1218 was already transferred to them by count Hugo von Montfort the Johannitern in Klösterle the Stubner area with the regulation to build at the foot of the Arlbergs for the travelers an accommodation and fires to grant water and shelter.

At the beginning 14. Century began a precipitous increase of traffic. With resound in Tirol new saltworks one put on, and the Arlberg developed to a via Salaria to east Switzerland. Stuben became thereby the passage place of a flourishing goods traffic. The medieval Wirtschaftswunder made also in the modest Bergdörfchen some belly somewhat more approximately, because the inhabitants found earning facilities plentiful. During the winter months the salt was transported on the carriage. For the preservation of the way the buyers had above rooms ?CPU harrows/selvedges? intended a tariff to pay for a rider 1 cruiser and for a Saumross 2 cruisers. Transit duties and driving wages brought considerable incomes to the Stubnern. Also for feed and drink of the pulling through one ensured, because is called it nevertheless in an old document: ?Is been to Stuben because of the foot of the Arlenberges seynd some Würths Hüser, and that most vonnöthen there??.

Strong traffic over the Arlberg, which did not come to a hold due to the again arising salt trade also in the winter, demanded some victim. For hours no lodging was to be achieved, and some, which came into a suddenly emerging snowstorm, was lost. The next accommodation sort, rooms and St. Jakob, lay apart for hours. The resolution Heinrich Findelkinds was the more heroischer to base on the height of the passport a Hospiz.
The locality Stuben was called too have castle times ?of the emperor largest rooms?.
The place name reflects the characteristic nature of this settlement in appropriate way: Security to donate protection and warmth for all, which look for either resting as Durchreisende or recovering as tourists the heimelige feeling of the "Stuben".

The nest warmth is not however only coined/shaped by the idyllischen limitness the local size and the grandiosen frame with the ore mountain, the Albona and the footstep head, on the contrary it is the cordialness and friendship of the Stubner, which maintain one century for a long time tradition of hospitality.
